Arnes, Espino Named To 2021 All-SWAC Soccer Team

The Texas Southern soccer duo of midfielder Ashley Arnes and goalkeeper Alexis Espino were both named to the 2021 All-SWAC Soccer Team on the eve of the 2021 SWAC Soccer Championship.

Arnes, who earned first team honors, joined the Tigers prior to the 2021 fall season and is TSU’s scoring leader with five goals on the season. She is a multiple SWAC Player of the Week honoree while also connecting on a pair of game-winning goals. The Layton, Utah native is coming off a strong season finale after scoring in the game-winner against Prairie View A&M this past weekend.

Espino recorded 84 saves with a save percentage of 82 percent on the season as she earned second team honors. The graduate transfer recorded three shutouts this season and ranks fifth in the NCAA and first in the SWAC in save percentage. She also ranks ninth in the NCAA and third in the SWAC in saves per game (7.1). She’s also a two-time SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week with highs of 21 and 14 saves against Grambling State and Alcorn State, respectively.

TSU opens tournament play Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Alabama State at Prairie View A&M University. The contest will be streamed on the SWAC Digital Network.
